Cast your vote! Which is better...?

For a while now, a relative of Tac's has been trying to convince Tac that he should purchase his '94 Corvette. While I think this would be an outstanding purchase, I also think that if Tac is willing to spend the money on such a vehicle, he should expand his options. I suggested Tac strongly consider a '77 or '78 Pontiac Trans Am. What could possibly be better, I argued, than seeing Tac wheel up in a black "Smokey & The Bandit" Trans Am? If anything, if not because the Trans Am is simply bad, for the comedic value as well. Tac was not completley sold on the idea.

So now I put it to you, the readers. Which is better?

Tac and the 'Vette:
tac & the vette.JPG

or...

tac & the ta.JPG

Tac and the T/A?

I think the choice is fairly obvious, but I thought I'd let Tac hear your opinions.

Tac sez: "no way!, I guess in Playa dream land you would purchase the TA before the vette, but no way in real life. I'm eager to see what the results of the vote are. Don't get me wrong, I love the TA, as a matter a fact I would love to have that car, for real, but you can't be serious when you say you would prefer the TA over the vette. It's a Chevy Corvette for goodness sake. The only true American sports car."

Below is a photo of the actual 'Vette Tac was looking at buying.

Vote or die!

I love muscle cars. This is a girl who watches Gone in Sixty Seconds every time they show it on tv, but I have to go with Tac on this one. Personally, one on my dream list has always been a '62 Corvette, but...don't get me going on dream cars.

Posted by: Washington Cube at October 10, 2005 10:13 PM

Being the older, wiser and more frugal brother of Tac (and the guy who watches the H&H bottom line!), I'm trying to convince him that what he really needs is an electric powered Honda Civic Hybrid. Somehow, I'm not getting through to him, and the Playaz aren't helping.

Posted by: Matt Henderson at October 11, 2005 3:16 AM

Hybrids are for sissies, Matt. Tac needs a gas guzzling Smokey and the Bandit mobile. Plus how can Tac haul around all his muscle shirts in a little Civic?

Posted by: Wayne at October 11, 2005 8:31 AM

Matt, I'm going to pretend you didn't even say that. I should delete your post, and maybe even ban your IP for saying such a thing.

Posted by: Phil at October 11, 2005 9:36 AM

No true Playa would be seen behind the wheel of a hybrid. His status would likely be revoked for such an infraction.

Posted by: Bon at October 11, 2005 11:50 AM

The Trans Am wins because the only color fit for a corvette is red, unless it's older, in which case silver is also good.

Posted by: mass at October 11, 2005 11:58 AM

Jolly good. Of course, I don't operate a motorized vehicle myself. Rather, I opt for the high-wheel bicycle. If that's not available, I usually walk or have Tac carry me. If I were in Tac's shoes, however, I would have to choose the Trans American, assembled by the Pontiac Corporation.

Posted by: Guvna at October 11, 2005 12:58 PM

Hold out for "Kit"

Posted by: CatCiao at October 11, 2005 1:32 PM

I am sorry. I have to come back to Matt's comments again about the hybrid. Matt needs to tell us if he has ever seen a man with a mustache and a mullett driving a hybrid. This would be similar to discovering a new breed of dinosaur, or Phil giving up doughnuts. It just will not happen.

Posted by: Bon at October 11, 2005 2:44 PM

I agree with black being a totally wrong color for a 'Vette. Hybrid cars? What are you? A communist??? I love that Trans Am. My only concern if Tac should buy it would be upkeep. Older cars need a lot of "tinkering" to keep them happy...said the woman who used to own a '39 Plymouth (with running boards) and a '64 MG (with the transmission from HELL, I tell you, HELL).

Posted by: Washington Cube at October 11, 2005 2:49 PM

Now that is what the Playaz like to hear Cube! A 39 Plymouth? Sweet.

Posted by: Bon at October 11, 2005 3:22 PM

I'll tell ya, Phil, that car had it's plusses and minuses. You sat up high in it, and it had manual shifting from the steering wheel, which was rather cool; another skill to acquire. I had so much U.S. Steel around me, that I could drive through city traffic and scoff at Humvee's. "Hit me. I dare you!" The downside was that the car was built like a tank and steered like one (pre- power-steering days), so it took a lot out of me to handle the car in terms of putting it through it's paces. If you've never driven an older car, you have no idea how hard they can be to manage. The equivalent, I guess, of me trying to master a Harley Hog...too much bike, but for the time I owned it, I did have fun with it.

Posted by: Washington Cube at October 11, 2005 4:07 PM

No question here. The Vette makes Tac look, well, less than male. It reminds me of something a 1980s prep-ster would drive. DEFINITELY the Trans Am.

Posted by: dc_cookie at October 11, 2005 4:10 PM

That was Bon, but I'm with you.

I had a '79 BMW 320 that had no power steering, so I know of what you speak with regards to that, and the upkeep on it was not fun, but that had more to do with it being a BMW.

I would think a Trans Am, while you would certainly have to keep it up, would not be that expensive, since most good old American car parts would work for it. Find one with a decent transmission and you should be good to go.

Posted by: Phil at October 11, 2005 4:11 PM

Let us not forget, back in the day, Tac drove a 65 Chevrolet pickup column shift to school everyday, c'mon!! He did not have power steering or AC either. TA Tac. It's the only way.

Posted by: Bon at October 11, 2005 7:59 PM

Tac definitely appears to "fit" better with the Trans Am.

Posted by: The Captain at October 11, 2005 9:39 PM

I have always been partial to Sunbeam Tigers. I only had an Alpine with 1800cc in high school and still desire this one with a 289 V-8. A classic classic.

http://www.sspmustang.org/images/Sunbeam_Tiger_at_Fan_Flight_2003.JPG

Posted by: CatCiao at October 11, 2005 10:35 PM

Be a rugged individual and go for the TA.

Posted by: Siryn at October 11, 2005 11:43 PM

my first vote was for the corvette. it's kinda Magnum PI sexyish. but then, the TA gets points because it looks like the batmobile from the 1960s version of Batman with Adam West.

Posted by: VP of Dior at October 12, 2005 12:16 AM

At this point, I have the vote as follows:

Readers:

4 votes for the Trans Am

I'm counting Cube as 1 vote for the Corvette

I am crediting one-half vote for the 'Vette, and one-half vote for the TA from VP Dior

Cat votes for the Knight-Rider Trans Am

Matt votes for a hybrid

Playaz:

4-1 in favor of the Trans-Am

Total votes at this point:

8 1/2 votes for the TA
2 1/2 votes for the Corvette

Posted by: Phil at October 12, 2005 9:14 AM

I can't believe the Playaz are even taking a vote on such a ridiculous question. If Tac buys the Corvette over the Trans Am, the other players should hold him down, shave his mullet and mustache, and Tattoo "P***y" in bright pink on the back of his bare neck where his beautiful blond mullet use to rest Manly on his neck. Conway Twitty is rolling over in his grave just thinking about Tac in a Vette.

Posted by: Bill S. at October 12, 2005 10:43 AM

OK, obliviously no one is considering the performance aspect of these two vehicles. Sure, if I purchased the TA I could cruse Mall Corners, picking up the high school honeys. BUT, wait, I知 not looking to cruse the local movie theater or pick up the honeys. I知 married!! I want a car I can take to Road ATL, step on it, and GO FAST!!!!! The TA, while extremely beautiful, does not go fast (or handle). The car is too heavy. Anyone who has sat behind the wheel of a fast car knows what I知 talking about.

BTW, I知 going to wait on the vettte, and the hybrid. Pray for a good year and I値l see ya in 2006 in a 2000 model vette.

Posted by: Tac at October 12, 2005 1:45 PM

Tac should be driving a '59 red Cadillac convertible with white interior, but what can you do? (I actually knew a guy who drove this car..family had Mafia ties..and when he honked the horn it played the Godfather theme.) You cannot make this stuff up. Ok..Ok...one last idea....the pimp car in Superfly.

Posted by: Washington Cube at October 12, 2005 3:56 PM

I don't know, Cube, I think I might be more suited for the '59 Caddy, with my 3-piece suit from J.C. Penney's...

The Guv'na will only ride about town on high-wheeled bicycles, and perhaps would be suited for a Model-T or something like that.

Wayne, in fact, may be better suited for the Corvette than Tac. Wayne's father once owned a Corvette, so it's in his blood.

Bon? Bon is a Mustang-man, but I'm not sure if that's the car for him...?

Posted by: Phil at October 12, 2005 4:39 PM

Go with the TA. Everyone has a Vette. They are cliche. However, if you're set on a Vette, please go pre-78, before fuel-injection. If you really want to impress, go with the '71 427. *drool*

That said, if you really want to be the HMFWIC, you go with my dream car.

Posted by: Sethro at October 12, 2005 5:34 PM

If you're talking new Mustang, uh...no. '65- '67..uh...yes. What about the Shelby GTO? My brother had a Corvette. You want my real opinion on them (excluding the "classic" years)? Fiberglass pieces o'horse hooey. Sorry, Tac. The Guv'na needs something obscurely vintage like a Pierce Arrow...or a horse-drawn Phaeton. I only mentioned Corvette for Tac, because it seemed that's where his passion lay: speed viz style.

Posted by: Washington cube at October 12, 2005 5:37 PM

I vote for the Trans Am. All the way. My parents used to have an '83 trans am (i.e., "Kit"). They rock. Hard. And listen to more REO Speedwagon.

Posted by: rcr at October 14, 2005 12:20 PM

honestly, i can't stand either one of them. sorry! i have never been a fan of american heavy metal. gimme a little foreign sportscar and i am with ya!

Posted by: Miss Penny Lane at October 14, 2005 11:39 PM

Just not Tac's style, unfortunately. Maybe Wayne would look nice in an Alfa Romeo wearing an ascot and driving gloves, but not Tac. He needs the American muscle more than any of us.
