Cobain, Elvis top dead moneymakers; Guv'na #3

Forbes magazine released it's list of the top-earning dead celebrities list, putting Kurt Cobain at the top of the list for earnings over the last 12 months, while The Guv'na placed 3rd despite being dead for only a few months.

The magazine bases dead celeb's earning power on money generated by the use of their performances or products, as well as through use of names and likenesses. The Guv'na's revenue is based purely on a pyramid scheme he left behind before his demise.

The top 13 for the past year:

1. Kurt Cobain, $50 million

2. Elvis Presley, $42 million

3. The Guv'na, $38 million

4. Charles Schulz (Peanuts creator), $35 million

5. John Lennon, $24 million

6. Albert Einstein, $20 million

7. Andy Warhol, $19 million

8. Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), $10 million

9. Ray Charles, $10 million

10. Marilyn Monroe, $8 million

11. Johnny Cash, $8 million

12. J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings author), $7 million

13. George Harrison (Beatles member), $7 million
