Mom reacts to Playaz Ball DVD
Last Saturday, my Mom was visiting and insisted on watching the recently completed Playaz Ball 2006 DVD. You may remember Mom from the classic "Pimps and Whores" story, where she introduced "The Google" into the english language.
Below are a few quotes made during the watching of the DVD:
Phil: "I was watching this last week and (my daughter) began to cry."
Mom: "She did?"
Phil: "Yes. I think it was primarily because of Ozzy Osbourne."
Mom: "Well, no wonder."
(I begin to turn on the DVD - my daughter sees the menu screen and instinctively begins to back away from the tv)
Mom: "TURN IT OFF!"
Mom: (amused by scene of fish surfacing on lake)
Mom: "You didn't shoot any fish did you?"
Phil: "No."
Mom: ........."Yes you did"........
(Phone rings and mom answers)
Mom: "Yeah...you did?....did you get the dishes?...oh, good...uh-huh...yes I'm at Phil's right now watching his movie...yeah...oh, Guv'na's reading the Bible now....gotta go"
(scene of the Playaz on the phone with Kathryn)
Mom: "Who is that?"
Phil: "That's Kathryn. She's a fan of ours, and she also has a blog of her own. We called to wish her a happy birthday."
Mom: "Have you ever seen a picture of her?"
Phil: "Mmm-hmm."
Mom: "Is she normal?"
Phil: "Yes, she is. It was her birthday last week and we emailed her saying we would call her to wish her a happy birthday and she said 'ok' and gave us her number to call."
Mom: (after a pause) "How CAN she be normal?"
(Phil's note: I couldn't tell if this was an insult to Kathryn or to us - meaning, Mom obviously thought either she was crazy for wanting us to call her, or she was saying "why would anyone want you to call?" - as if we were the crazy ones. Even though I'm her son...go figure)
(scene of Tac wrestling me to the ground, then putting me in an arm-bar)
Mom: "Oh...I don't think I'd have put that on tape."
Mom is alternately offended by an early scene of Tac inhaling "comet dust", then amused minutes later by a cocaine covered doughnut.
Mom: "Wayne really does look like a pimp."
Mom: "You didn't break anything, did you?"

Playaz Ball going straight to DVD
As mentioned in previous posts, I've been hard at work finalizing a DVD for this year's Playaz Ball.
I have not yet decided if this is something I can release to the "general public", as it may not be cost effective for the Playaz.
I will say that the final cut is perfect. Yesterday, one of my little girls was watching the DVD and became very frightened and burst into tears which let me know I was on the right track.
One reader suggested I post it to YouTube. While normally I'd say this makes sense, the DVD is currently 26 mins - YouTube only allows 10 mins maximum video time. Cutting and rendering the video, and reducing the file size will make for a less-than-quality production with a lot of time spent. Also, there are several clips that cannot be shown to the public. So while this may be an option for certain segments later down the road, currently it is not an option.
So in the meantime, I will keep you posted if it becomes available to the masses.
(P.S. - Don't worry...I immediately scooped up my little girl and propped her up on my knee...we continued watching and she was giggling and laughing in no time...)

Playaz remain in quarantine following Playaz Ball
The Playaz and their special guests remained in quarantine following this year's Playaz Ball, which is standard practice to ensure the Playaz have not brought back any contagious diseases with them on their return.

Special guests Kenny Rogers, Larry Holmes, the Pope, and others are inside the air tight, quality-controlled environment with the Playaz until week's end when doctors have cleared them to be released.

President Bush visited the Playaz to thank them and to congratulate them for a successful Playaz Ball, that only resulted in the shooting of few animals, and only one stabbing this year.
The Playaz greatly enjoyed their time at Playaz Ball, and feasted on the finest seafood while at their headquarters on the Isle of Palms.
For example, Thursday night, the Playaz dined at Captain D's. Friday, it was Long John Silver's. And Saturday night, the Playaz went all out with a drive into downtown Charleston for dinner at the Red Lobster.

As you can see I am currently working on this year's DVD. I am nearly complete, but getting back to our regular schedule may take me some time. Bear with me over the next week or so.
In the meantime, enjoy this quick outtake from the Official Playaz Ball 2006 DVD.

Playaz Ball 2006: On a warm summer's evening
You will notice in our little game of Texas Hold 'Em there is no money on the table. That's because we play with a .357 Magnum with a single bullet in the cylinder. The loser of the hand must put the gun to his head and pull the trigger until one player is dead. This game got a little out of hand.

Phil is convinced either Tac is dealing off the bottom of the deck or Bon is cheating

The situation escalated quickly

Wayne admonishes the Playaz, saying Playaz should only shoot other people, not each other

As always, our ever changing schedules and the unpredictability of Playaz Ball prevents me from making any promises, except that I will post updates as I am able.
I will be taking a brief break in the meantime. Until then...See y'all next week.

Pope Benedict XVI accepts invitation to Playaz Ball
Pope Benedict XVI accepted an official invitation extended to him to attend this year's Playaz Ball. The Playaz, who are on a European tour that included stops in Pamplona, Spain and St. Petersburg, Russia, visited the Vatican City to pick up their very special guest.

"We will be taking the Pope to our private jet to fly him to the Isle of Palms for Playaz Ball," Wayne confirmed with the press.

Wayne snacks on a communion wafer prior to departing V.C.
The Pope stated he was extremely excited to receive an invitation, which is notoriously secretive for security reasons and is privvy to only a very select few outside the Playaz themselves.
"I have always wanted to go to Playaz Ball, ever since I was a Cardinal," Pope Benedict said. "I cannot wait. I heard Dian Parkinson will be there. So will Kenny Rogers. I heard one year Gene Rayburn went and he passed out and woke up handcuffed in the basement lying next to Linda Carter. Man, this is going to be so awesome!"

The Pope waved to well-wishers as the Playaz escorted him out of the Vatican City. Bon offered a child to the Pope for a sacrifice prior to Playaz Ball, but the Pope refused.

Pamplona, Spain kicks off 9-day festival with "Running of the Playaz"
The northern Spanish city of Pamplona kicked off their annual festival and countdown to Playaz Ball with it's annual "Running of the Playaz".
This morning, at 8 a.m., the Playaz were let loose from a holding pen onto Santo Domingo Street, at which point they were free to run the .8 kilometer route into the city's bullring where throngs of excited and terrified fans await them.

Typically, thousands of fans of the Playaz run along side trying both to get near the Playaz, yet maintain a safe distance. The size of the crowd, and the unpredictability of the Playaz, adds to the risk involved in the experience.

"Most fans view the Playaz as friendly persons who are rather harmless," one experienced runner was quoted as saying. "But underestimating them can be a fatal mistake," he added.

Fortunately, the 3 minute run resulted in only one serious injury. Playaz fan Steve Skalish was inadvertently gored when he allowed himself to get too close to Bon. Undeterred, Skalish was quoted as saying "it was a great experience, and I'd do it again."
The Playaz are expected to head to Italy sometime next week on the last leg of their European trek before Playaz Ball 2006.

Corporate sponsor secured for Playaz Ball 2006
The Playaz are pleased to announce English Leather® as this year's Playaz Ball corporate sponsor.

English Leather® recently signed an eight figure sponsorship deal with the Playaz to promote their "Shower Soap on a Cord". It is the only soap the Playaz use.
The full length cord conveniently hangs over a faucet or around your neck. Not just around your wrist. And every Playa-sized bar is hard-milled to last longer.
A man's soap. A Playaz' soap, with the clean, fresh scent of classic English Leather.
So this year, try English Leather®. Be one man with one scent. The scent of a Playa.

Bridgeport, Conn. Mayor expected to play pivotal role in Playaz Ball '06
At an impromptu press conference held today, Wayne told reporters that Bridgeport, Connecticut Mayor John Fabrizi would play a pivotal role in this year's Playaz Ball.
"Mayor Fabrizi has long been a friend of the Playaz, and we hope he will once again lend us his expertise in planning this year's Playaz Ball," Wayne stated.
"Bridgeport is a town roughly equivalent in size to that of Charleston, where Playaz Ball is held each year. His abilities to successfully navigate the streets of such a town while maintaining a high profile, and pinpointing the locations of the best narcotics possible are unparalleled."
At last year's Playaz Ball, Fabrizi helped "keep the party rolling all night long, and not stop until the break of dawn," Wayne added.

Guv'na & Chewbacca to travel cross country together in 18-wheeler
The Guv'na and Chewbacca have begun a cross country journey together via 18 wheeler that will take them across the continental 48 states, parts of Canada, and Mexico to promote the upcoming 2006 Playaz Ball.

Guv'na and Chewbacca will be handing out kangols and candy canes to spread word of the big event, scheduled to occur July 27th through the 30th.

Chewy and The Guv'na are not charting unfamiliar waters, so to speak. Prior to Chewbacca's assistance to the Playaz through our NASA projects, the odd couple had travelled together for many years, getting into various misadventures on the road. In the late 70s, Guv'na and Chewy would bootleg Coors beer across the Texarkana line, then considered illegal in the southern bible-belt states.

The Guv'na's only complaint is sharing a sleeper cabin with the 7 and a half foot space-ape.

"It is highly uncomfortable, and the beast emits a formidable scent," Guv'na has said. "But, it is for the good of Playaz Ball," he added.
